Why host with MaximusHost?

Resources for your next session

Choose from 1–8 GB RAM and 1–4 vCPU. We recommend 2–4 GB RAM and 2–3 vCPU as a starting point for the maps and sessions you plan to host.

Choose a map and mode

Use L4D2 Tools to find maps installed on the server, save a default map and mode, or change levels for the current session.

Manage players and server settings

Check the player list, send a message, and use console, logs, and Properties for day-to-day administration.

Easy-to-understand estimates

See estimated resource and running-time costs before setup. You pay with credits instead of choosing a fixed monthly campaign package.

How it works

  1. Choose your game and resources. Pick Left 4 Dead 2 and choose RAM and CPU for the way you plan to play.
  2. Set up your server. Choose the options for your game and review the one-time creation fee before you confirm.
  3. Start and connect. When your server is ready, start it from your account and share the connection details with your group.
  4. Manage it as you play. Use your MaximusHost dashboard to check server status and manage its settings and tools.

Estimate your hosting cost

See a Standard-account estimate in credits based on RAM, CPU, storage, and expected running time. If your game needs a dedicated IP, its estimated charge is included too. Stopped-server charges can vary by account, including whether a dedicated IP remains assigned. Review Billing and Credits for details. Setup also shows the one-time 50-credit server creation fee.

Left 4 Dead 2 features

Made for co-op nights

Set up a server for your group’s campaigns and game modes, then share its connection details for the session.

Find maps ready to play

Find maps installed on your server and choose a mode that fits. The maps you can select depend on what is installed.

Test your setup before friends join

Try the map and mode with a smaller group first. Use console output to troubleshoot a level change, then return to the last map that worked if needed.

Frequently asked questions

What resources should I choose for a first server?

We recommend 2–4 GB RAM and 2–3 vCPU. Check resource use during the maps your group plays and adjust if needed.

Do I need to buy a dedicated IP?

No. MaximusHost assigns a shared-network port to a standard Left 4 Dead 2 server, so a separate dedicated IP is not required. Your account shows the connection details to share with friends.

How do I choose a custom map?

Use L4D2 Tools to detect maps installed on the server, then select one and its matching game mode. The tool works with server-installed content; it does not automatically sync Workshop subscriptions.

Can I change levels during a session?

Yes. L4D2 Tools can request a level change now. Let players know first, then check the result and console output.

What can I do from the server dashboard?

Check players, send messages, adjust available Properties, and review console output and logs. Shared access depends on the permissions the owner grants.
