The Backups tab allows you to create, download, restore, and delete backups for your server.

This page is available for supported MaximusHost game servers.

Backups are one of the most important tools for protecting server data, saves, settings, and progress.

What a Backup Includes

A backup usually contains your server data such as:

• Save / world data
• Configuration files
• Mods/plugins (depending on game type)
• Server settings

Exact contents can vary by game.

Existing Backups

Saved backups appear as cards on the page.

Each backup may display:

• Date and time created
• File size

Example:

• 2026-04-23T10:08:40Z
• 513 MB

Larger backups usually indicate more stored data or larger save files.

Create New Backup

Click Create New Backup to generate a fresh snapshot of your server.

Recommended before:

• Mod changes
• Version upgrades
• Major builds
• World resets
• Troubleshooting
• Deleting files

Creating backups regularly is strongly recommended.

Download Backup

Click Download to save a copy to your own computer.

Useful for:

• Personal archives
• Migrating to another host
• Extra protection
• Sharing worlds privately

Restore Backup

Click Restore to replace the current server data with that backup.

Use restore when:

• World was damaged
• Progress was lost
• Bad mod update occurred
• Settings were broken
• You want to roll back changes

Important

Restoring a backup usually overwrites current live data.

Recent progress made after that backup may be lost.

Delete Backup

Click Delete to permanently remove a stored backup.

Use this to free space or remove outdated backups.

Only delete backups you no longer need.

Recommended Backup Strategy

Active Server

Create backups:

• Before every major change
• Before updates
• Weekly at minimum

Modded Server

Create backups more often, especially before adding or removing mods.

Public Server

Use frequent backups due to griefing or accidental damage risk.

Troubleshooting

Restore did not fix issue

Try an older backup if the problem already existed in the latest one.

Backup is very large

Likely causes:

• Large world size
• Many save files
• Mods with extra data

Missing recent progress after restore

The restored backup only contains data from the time it was created.

Backup creation slow

Large worlds and heavily used servers take longer to archive.

Tips

• Keep multiple generations of backups.
• Download critical backups locally.
• Name/track important backup dates externally if needed.
• Always create a backup before risky changes.
• Never rely on only one backup copy.
