Project Zomboid Server Settings and Sandbox Options

See which Project Zomboid settings MaximusHost currently supports, how to save them, and what to know about sandbox and world-generation options.

Open My Servers, select your Project Zomboid server, and choose Settings. The current form groups its controls under Server browser and Access and gameplay.

Settings supported today

  • Public server name and Public description control the information shown in the server browser.
  • Show in public browser controls the Project Zomboid browser listing. Steam may expose Steam-enabled servers independently.
  • Maximum players sets the server's player limit. The form accepts values from 1 to 100, but its guidance warns that values above 32 can increase map-streaming and desynchronization risk. This range is not a tested player-capacity guarantee.
  • New join password sets an optional password shared by players. The owner can use Show current password to retrieve it privately. Leave it blank to keep the existing password, or select Remove join password to clear it.
  • Enable PvP controls player-versus-player combat.
  • Pause game time when empty controls whether the game clock pauses when no one is online.
  • Allow new player accounts controls whether a new player can create an account on the server. When off, accounts must already be on the server's whitelist.

These controls do not create a new world or reset an existing save.

Advanced server settings

The searchable advanced editor offers selected server options grouped by category. Search by name, setting key, or description, and review the displayed descriptions, choices, and reference defaults before changing a value. The editor does not expose every game setting.

Save settings and apply changes

Stop the server before saving basic or advanced settings. Save your changes, read the confirmation, and start the server manually when ready. Reopen Settings to check the saved values if the result is unclear. Back up an established world before making changes that may affect it.

Zombie, loot, and survival settings

The advanced editor covers selected server options, not sandbox controls for zombie population or behavior, loot availability, day length, zombie respawn, or experience rates.

Sandbox options affect world rules, and some can interact with world generation or an existing save. Changing an option does not guarantee that the game will regenerate areas already explored or update every part of an established world. MaximusHost does not currently provide an in-dashboard editor for those sandbox options; check the game's guidance for the exact option and create a backup before making sandbox changes to an established world.
